Europe
46 cases
Compared to most other continents, Europe saw a much smaller number of contract killings in 2019 and 2020. Most of the victims were local community, mainly activists, and politics and governance, mainly politicians, but also included members criminal groups. Killings linked to organized crime were driven by turf wars between gangs and in many cases occurred outside the home territory of those gangs. In comparison to other continents, the use of firearms was much less popular.
